The more I do Lifestyle Photography inside people's homes, the more I fall in love with it. I LOVE the unexpected nature of these types of shoots! How I can go into a shoot thinking one thing and then get to capture magic tricks and a kid eating a donut with no hands. Sitting in on Tuesday tea time at the Swenson house this past week was also a treat because my husband is usually working and therefore my shoots are normally on the weekends. After a depressing dump of some fresh snow, I'm glad I got to step into that familiar photo flow and get all giddy about the amount of natural light inside their home!
An obstacle I overcame during this shoot: Getting a shy toddler to warm up to me. Here's how I approach this situation: Step one is reassuring Mom that it'll be okay. Often times Mom will be worried about making sure we get plenty of shots, so I kindly remind her that it's my job to do the worrying. Then I'll attempt a game with the toddler or ask him to show me something. This time I took a picture of him hiding and asked if I could show it to him.
