01. What type of photography do you do?
I specialize in newborn lifestyle photography! I'm working towards becoming a Certified Birth Photographer. I also enjoy photographing families with babies and young kids.
02. What's your style?
I'm a lifestyle & documentary photographer. I love to capture raw emotion & authentic expressions through a laid-back approach. The goal is to capture real moments, real people engaging with each other in real ways. Everyone standing nicely and smiling at the camera is not my ultimate goal.
My work has been described as bright, creamy, and candid. The images have a glaze that is natural, timeless, and polished. And I like to edit on the warmer side with skin tones that have a touch of pink. But it's not orange/desaturated. (Side note: I think that style is trendy but doesn't actually look all that great. It'll probably soon be outdated...And I don't want you to look back on your photos and only be able to see the dated editing style!)
03. How do you choose which images to deliver?
I look through every single photo and select the best ones to deliver. I'm getting rid of eyes closed and anything that looks mid-sentence. I'm looking at focus and composition, but I'm also looking for the images that represent both my artistic style and your family well.
I don't give you everything because then you'd have to sort through it all and find the best ones, which is a burden on you. I do the hard work for you. After all, that's part of why you're hiring me!
04. How long will it take to get all my photos?
I like to share a sneak peek a couple days after your session. As for the rest of the photos, two weeks! Yep, even if it's a birth.
05. When do newborn sessions occur?
I recommend scheduling a newborn session for when your baby is about two weeks old. I'm more than happy to schedule it sooner or a little later. We can create incredible images no matter what! There are a few pros and cons of the different ages, but nothing that will make or break a session. This blog post explains in detail.
06. How many black & white images do you deliver?
I LOVE black & white images. On the pre-session questionnaire, I like to ask if you're interested in black & white images so I know if I should deliver more or less, but I will always provide at least some images in black & white. I determine which images to deliver in black & white based on my artistic vision, location, and lighting.
07. How far out will you book?
Typically families will book their sessions about 2-3 months out, sometimes 4. I'll book birth photography as far as 6 months out. It's a good idea to book your newborn session or birth photography at least 2 months out to reserve your time window.
08. What happens if it rains?
We can change the location of your session to your home and hang out inside or on your porch. If it's just a light rain, you can opt to roll with it! We can totally create some amazing photos in the rain. I have clear umbrellas that we can use. Or we can reschedule!
